Opened for the Dinner at Eulalie event of the Society of the Chantepleure, at the conclusion of the meal.
Dark amber, the wine was rich in flavor equal to that color - but perhaps a bit past its peak, the sweetness still - but only in part - balanced by a waning acidity. Softly tart quince, hints of chocolate, viscous honey are the memory notes.
Rated +1 on a scale of -1 to +3. (I've drunk this wine many times, but these bottles lacked the typical balance (even at 33 years of age).

Fresher than the last bottle but still very dark and reminiscent of PX but with a sharper herbal note. This lasted many days in the fridge without deterioration.

Very dark in colour. Nose wafting and grapey. Almost like a PX. Palate full and surprisingly sweet. Only just sufficient acidity. Not a lot of definition even after two days. Maybe not the best bottle.

2021 Athens Wine Event , An event to make up for the last 2 years (Spondi , Athens): Served blind and albeit arrived at the end of a very long and super solid wine flight shown through. Nine guessed its origin but all fell in love with it. This is our second time we had this ( Papies 96 3 years ago ) and was as impressive as the memories inscribed in the TN back then. Bright lots of energy and layered, depth of flavour exceptionelle here and albeit rich effortlessly balanced , almost light at times. Superb 96.

Deep brownish golden. Nose of apricot and quince, very rich, hints of caramel. A bit lighter in the mouth but still an intense wine with better balance than the slightly confit character seemed to indicate; underneath there must be quite a good acidity. I don't see it getting better from here. Lovely wine and a good match with a plum tart, but not quite magical.
