  This bottle may have been a bit advanced, though the "balance" of everything intact is always notable on these Drouhin reds (no heavy-handed extaction or glossy toasted oak). Singed orange type pinot top notes, almost Grand Marnier-like mixed with smoked meats, rusted metal-type minerals and some tertiary almond paste infelctions. I recall a '79 Drouhin Gevrey AC that showed more on form but this particular Volnay does maintain an elegance in the higher register that makes this compelling and wants you to come back to it.
