PnP after 30 mins in the fridge. Dark purple crimson dense but not saturated with purple to clear rim. Earthy plum fig and blackberry aroma. Medium weight with plush but feint tannins. Cassis pastille flavour with notes of earth blackberry cola and a pleasant herbal bitter note. Delicious. Awesome value.

Good intensity but simple nose with savoury notes, white pepper, red plums and red cherries. Dry in the mouth with a bland acidity and velvety tannins. It is warm with a decent concentration and finish.

As a fan of Carignan who is vehemently opposed to new oak, I was thrilled to test out this Carignan-based wine that sees no oak at all.
The appearance of the wine is dark yet translucent black-red with a light purple hue. The nose is very expressive and fruit-forward with most likely some carbonic maceration aromas. There are ripe and quite sweet aromas of blueberries, boysenberries, some lactic strawberry yoghurt notes, a little dark plum, a hint of raspberry juice and a touch of bubblegum. The wine is dry and medium-to-full-bodied on the palate, but with rather ripe flavors suggesting some sweetness. There are notes of almost sweet raspberries, strawberries and boysenberries, some stony minerality, a little bitter spiciness and hints of ripe bananas, strawberry jam and vanilla ice cream mushed together. The mouthfeel is rather soft and mellow thanks to the gentle acidity and mellow, neatly manicured tannins. The finish is quite long and a bit more acid-driven with flavors of ripe blueberries, raspberries, bitter spice, some stony minerality, light redcurrant brighntness and a hint of herbal character.
Well, this wasn't really what I was expecting. When I'm looking for a Carignan, I'm looking for a serious wine with firm tannins and relatively high acidity contrasting the full body. However, this felt like a simple and cheap everyday wine with more emphasis on the winemaking than on the terroir. I normally prefer lighter Montsants over the burly wines of the neighboring region of Priorat, but this tasted more like a Spanish Beaujolais Nouveeau than anything remotely Montsant or Carignan. Feels like a rip-off at 16€ - the correct price for this wine should be somewhere around half of that. Meh.
