  • 2 of 6 decanted at 4:00 served @ Popina at 7:30. Deep ruby core with lightening rim. Initial nose of tart cherry and a little funk blew off after 30 minutes. Palate showed a sweeter fruit profile laced with spice and hints of tar and leather. Fine tannins and nice acidity contribute to the texture and energy of this wine. Lovely balance and finish… this is in a great place with rounder, lighter red fruit and spice than one normally finds in Roumier wines. At or close to peak maturity with plenty in the tank to keep it at this level for another 10 years …. Open one if you have a few in your cellar

  • Good, but not great. Slightly dirty at first, cleaned up with some air after 15-20 minutes. Lots of acid, overpowering the fruit a bit. Fun to drink and tasty in the end, but not a memorable wine for me tonight. I would definitely be a seller of this if I had more bottles left given what they currently are trading for.

  • Unsurprisingly for a 96 Roumier, drinks younger than it is (I think I guessed early 2000s). Still quite structured with good bones. Like with most 96s, the hope is they will come around..........

  • Brought this to a “Mungier v Roumier” dinner where it was included and part of a mini Bussiere vertical 96/12/13

#1 of 6 purchased on release. Double decanted 4 hours prior. Deep youthful color, darker fruited nose with floral and spice notes adding complexity. Palate was similarly dark fruited, nicely textured with fine tannins and energetic acidity. This is clearly just entering its drinking window and seems to have more to give over the next 5-10 years.

Clearly this 1996 had more in common with the broodier, tighter 2012 than the lighter more open styled 2013. That being said the was a flight in a dinner that focused on Roumier and Munginer we had a mini vertical of his CM Les Cras and Mugnier CM les Fuees ...This was a wonderful way to compare the house Style or POV of Roumier and Mungnier Which became more evident across several vineyards and vintages enjoyed this night

  • Still going strong. Plenty of fruit and enough acid to keep it fresh. Great length. Good wine!
