Finally! I’ve been saving my last bottle of this vintage, hoping it would live up to its pedigree. Last night it did. We enjoyed this wine with lasagna and it was a great pairing. The cab is dry, with enough fruit and acidity to work with the lasagna. I suspect the 2012 will last for many years, but it has definitely entered its prime drinking window.

This wine is loaded with flavors of tar, mocha and cranberry. At 10 years post vintage, it is evident this wine can easily age another 5 to 10 years. It improved as it took on air and should be decanted for an hour or so for maximum enjoyment.

So rare, but Matt noticed as soon as he withdrew the cork. The second of two that we bought from the winery, it has had perfect storage but nonetheless had a serious flaw.

Opened and tasted right away. At first the acid and tannins in this wine were front and center, and were bullying the fruit to the point where it was hiding. Cranberry, sour strawberry. So I threw it into a decanter for about an hour. After the hour, it was a great pairing for a grilled prime NY Strip. After dinner though, the fruit came to the forefront as this mellowed out a bit. Really interesting to taste this over a 4 hour period. My suggestion is to decant this wine for 1.5 to 2 hours before drinking.

Dark ruby. Sonoma cab nose of cedar, blackberry jam, touch of tomato leaf. Creamy ripe black and blue fruits on palate but presented on a surprisingly nimble medium body, with sufficient acidity and fine mild tanins to hold it all together. I liked this a lot
