Opened at Zarzo in Eindhoven. P&P and enjoyed slowly. #360 / 552
This was really really good. I feel like the Comte has an undeserved reputation concerning his older wines. Though there definitely is an argument to be made that his viticulture and vinification have both improved... this wine is testament that even his older wines, in a weak vintage no less, are still exceptional and drinking so well.
Still yielding fresh red and blue fruit; the palate was fully relaxed and expressive. Ever so slight hint of tertiary development but not over the cliff yet, and frankly drank like a 20 year old DRC. I guess that tells you all you need to know!
Unsure if I'll ever have the chance to try something like this again, so it was a real privilege to do so with A and the team. Thanks again and can't wait to revisit.

Burgs and Cassoulet on a Cold and Rainy Spring Evening (Sta. Rita Hills, CA): In a beautiful place, far outperforming expectations, with an enticing, spice-driven set of aromatics and impressive intensity. Red berry flavors, mainly strawberry. No unpleasant green notes whatsoever. I particularly liked the long finish. Very well done.

(Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes) Only two barrels. Louis-Michel really needs to watch this cuvée because the smaller quantity can ferment all-to quickly and produce an edge of harshness. Be keeping tabs and generally bringing more control into the cuvaison he's sure that the wine is greatly improved. Deeper colour. A quite lovely nose of red berries and cherries, wide, high-toned and perfumed. Extra density vs the village wines, super acidity and again great texture. The finish widens out beautifully. Real class.
