  • Performed the usual routine with this wine - poured one glass, recorked & refridgerated. With the usual result too. Puts on weight & width overnight, loamy flavours & lingering finish. Enough acidity to cut through the fatty roast pork, a very few tannins still loitering around in the dying echoes.

  • Double decanted, half the bottle consumed 1st evening, other half reserved in a split bottle, refridgerated 24hrs. With a mature Camembert & salami on both occasions. Good on the first evening, a little astringency on the finish and not especially complex. Completely transformed on the 2nd evening. Complex herbal notes on the nose, underbrush & moist earth. More of the same on the palate-no more than medium bodied but all the better for it, long & oh so satisfying. Mindboggling QPR @ £10.

  • M. Durantou of l'Eglise Clinet makes this of wines bought in bulk--that is, it's plonk. Every btl is different. A couple of my 10 bought at auction have been classic (if basic) decade-old claret, and a couple have been thin and sour. Most have been at least worth the $10/ btl. And some of the good and the bad have had mold on the corks, making me wonder how they were stored before they reached me. This wine won't get any better with age.

  • Decanted 2hrs. Wow,miles younger & tighter than the '98, a whole other level of density & complexity. For drinking today, however, the '98 is more rounded & mellifluous. Lots of blackcurrant & plum, excellent tannic grip in the finish should see this age nicely.
