Dinner with Rich (Heirloom Cafe, SF): Stood up for weeks, decanted off 2oz. Light ruby, clear; aromatic, roses, cherry fruit; palate is light-medium bodied, definitely some tarry notes, some floral/roses, richer styled than other vintages, high tannin, lovely depth; finish is medium-plus length. It does come across as from a warmer year, but it has a depth of flavor which is very nice. If anything this seems youthful and has a long runway ahead of it, though not a bad idea to try one now. 93-94 for now, will likely open up more with air. With air, nice Barolo, youthful, and showing a tad bit of warmth but otherwise full of character and fabulous with the food. Lovely depth. Drinking well now, but also likely to at least last if not improve for the next 5-10 years. Day 2: Just a half-glass left, but it's held up fairly well! Still full of character and very enjoyable.

Rich and showing the ripeness of the vintage, but not sens eo warmth. Roses, cherry fruit, some hard candy. It's forward and plush for Rinaldi with youthful bright fruit, balsam, and good purity. Quite long, and grows with air time. Quite long on the back end. I don't think this will be a wine for the ages, but it is youthfully beautiful right now and has plenty fo time in hand. A solid 2011.

Pouted from 1.5L: Very pretty aromatics, fruit is precise and detailed, a bit muted at this stage, at least in this larger format. Quite good, but needs some air or more time. I didn’t decant ahead of time and that was a mistake, I’d say.

Incredible bottle of wine, rose petals, soft cherry, palate is balanced, good acid and structure, good fruit. Long long finish.
