I'm enjoying this wine much more than I did last year - I'm not sure if it's different or I am. A very reticent nose, and I still think that it would be more appropriate as a component of a blend rather than the attempt here to be cohesive, evoke a specific site, and command the price it asks. But this time the fruit is more giving, the outer texture more pleasant. Tanginess is the primary distinctive attribute, but it's not an overly lean or acidic wine. Certainly a premium quality Pinot that I'm happy to have, but not one to chase down as expressing the best of Oregon. Best through 2019.

This wine has many qualities of wonderful Pinot Noir - some tanginess, some dusty earth, nice dark berry fruit. But it doesn't hold together as much as I would like. Lange's often a favorite of mine from Oregon, but I wonder if this one should have been blended with some other vineyards to create a more integrated wine, especially given the higher-end price asked for this bottling. It doesn't seem this will get better with age, but it has enough energy now that I expect it will go into 2019 before it starts to lose what it has.
