  • From a bottle that sat in a forgotten box/styrofoam from the winery in a cool corner of my basement for 17 years.
Was expecting vinegar, but the wine was spectacular - an amazing surprise. Just a bit light in color at the edges. Gravely raspberry fruit soars from the glass. There is also a hint of cinnamon. In the mouth the wine is medium bodied with surprisingly intense strawberry/raspberry fruit that is just a bit leathery toward the end. Absolutely no hard edges or hints of anything that would detract. The wine is elegant, complex and has a surprisingly long finish. A wonderful example of Californian style.
I cannot see the wine improving from here, but expect it will drink well for a few more years.

  • From magnum, medium translucent ruby. Very fragrant nose with earthy floral and cherry notes. Bright but rich and chewy with depth of flavor like the nose. Moderately long aftertaste. Wish I had more!

  • Still delicious! Fruit has mellowed as have the acids, but still very vibrant..

  • The '95 is
nice, though more mature than the '94. I'd say it just crested the
hill and is beginning to roll down. Dark cherry with a hint of
maraschino cherries, a bit of spice, still a little hint of toasty
oak. Smooth, nice texture, balanced acidity. Fades a bit after a
while, but nice wine (think the '94 is a step better). B+

  • Wow!! Much better than the last time I tried this wine (1/98). Super berry/spice nose. Incredible fruit driven flavors with a touch of earth to add complexity. Very long, finish. A wonderful example of new world Pinot Noir. I doubted the Wine Spectator review based on my initial tasting, but this wine just needed time. I can still smell this wine....
