Book circle: Leena Krohn (Chez J): I really enjoyed this. Had a lot of funk on the nose but is much more easy to drink when you actually try it. Licorice, dark chocolate, tobacco, cherries, leather, sloe berries. The grip is there but it is actually ready to go now IMHO. We tried the Escombro from the same vintage some years ago and this was better, suggesting that we should have let the Escombro rest a bit. This really improved over four days (half the bottle left in the fridge, re-corked) which took some of the VA edges off and gave a more rounded and less funky impression.

Initially funky, but it airs out quickly. Dark, fruit chocolate, spice and a bit of perfume on the nose. A lot going on in the mouth with dense dark fruit (plum, blackberries), high acidity and some firm tannins to finish off. A good effort and a wine that could be kept a few years.

Well balanced and nice perfumy notes on the nose. Not overpowering in the mouth and went well with both foie gras and with red meat. It was surprisingly mellow for being made of mourverdre.

Different but very good. Massive tannins. Young, maybe even better in 3-5 years.
