Drank this by myself over several hours and the wine continued to evolve brilliantly as it got more air. Tons of reduction upon opening. Wine was initially served closer to room temperature which made it seem quite fatty and creamy. Notes of mint, tarragon, limestone minerality, fresh lemon, yellow apple, and white flowers. After multiple decants, much more floral with lilies and gardenia while retaining its minerality. Fuller body, almost oily, med alcohol, med+ acidity, perfectly balanced, and a long finish. Texture is fabulous. Lovely opulent style of white burgundy!

The nose opened with really ripe, round yellow orchard fruits. Very round and rich, but also got that struck flint as a brilliant contrast. Don’t pick up lots of oak, I was guessing a youthful Lafon, but Lafons of late have also undergone a change in style. I love Guffens, if you like your white burgs in an opulent style and are looking for value, look no further.

Post work neighbourhood session. Pop and poured. Tasted blind. Drank in Zalto Universal. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of yellow lemon curd, ripe peaches, green melon, chalky minerality, reductive matchstick, underlying salinity. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of yellow ripe peaches, yellow lemon curd, chalky minerality, underlying salinity. Long finish. Very good quality. Lovely matchstick reduction that I like. Drinking well and can age a bit more too.

Saturday hangout at Domaine (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Kind of a toss-up between chardonnay and chenin, but the slight citrus on the acid made me pick the former. Surprisingly mature with a bit of a sweet corn profile that was kind of interesting; not quite as put-together as some other Guffens I've had. I guessed this was around 10 years older than it actually was.

Intensely funky, when it somewhat blows off there is a precise lemon-oil reduction profile. Vintage very good but funky, almost dirty! 91
