This has been hiding in my cellar for a while. My experience with Petite Sirah-only wines is that they are super dense, gritty and teeth-coloring. This one was just over ten years old when I opened it, and the first night I felt like I was getting clubbed with a blackberry cudgel. A day's time and a little vacu-vin enabled rest in the bottle, and this turned into a very nice wine. Still have loads of blackberry and bramble, but some nice menthol and forest floor notes have appeared, and just the barest hint of iodine and meat. So yeah - drink'em if you got 'em. Tannins are smooth, acidity is low to medium and overall a very nice balanced wine. 15-20 second finish.

Gave this 60 min in the decanter. Dark as night, thick as lightweight motor oil.
Nose of blackberry jam, smoky, hint of cool damp mountain forest, mocha.
Oak has integrated, but this is still a structured tannic beast that lets some fruit shine through—blackberry primarily, but plum and black cherry poking in and out. 30 second finish where the plum appears. Though structured and tannic, it flows seamlessly from front to back. I find this to still be primary, yet delicious, acid has also integrated, so this feels like it may be getting close to an opening in the drinking window in the coming years.
This bottle was part of an experiment in aging in a dark closet at Texas cellar temps (68-75 year round). Stored there since purchase on its side. No apparent debits, at least not with a big tannic wine like this one.

This is about 6 years from the last time I tasted this. Sweet red fruit up against a dry tannin finish. Bright acids keep the fruit fresh and flavorful. A lot of blackberry and maybe a touch of plum. A finish that goes for days. I have one more bottle. Will try and wait to 2027 before I open it.

The bottle I opened is just savagely dark and tannic. Let sit 2 days in the wine cellar - same. Maybe my palate is off but this is still to rough to drink.
