  • This inexpensive, seldom seen Amarone is developing nicely, and may be at peak now. After being opened (without decanting) 3 hours, the dark purple/ruby robe hid pretty well the discrete nose. A bit of tobacco and oak could be appreciated, but on the whole not a lot. On the palate, however, a clear, precise palate of tobacco, leather, black currant, and barely perceptible dried raisin/prune were readily apparent. This was a very dry wine, and it was an excellent match for baked rigatoni with Italian turkey sausage and marinara. Really drinking nicely, and one more bottle to go!

  • Note basically as before. Perhaps not the typical Amarone, but this is excellent at what it does, and was an equally excellent pairing for Italian potted beef with chipotle peppers and rigatoni!

  • What a find! A dark ruby-purple, when first opened the nose features black cherry, both red and black currant, dry tobacco, and a hint of leather. The palate is tight, though similar, with significant tannins drawing in on mid-palate through the dry finish. Was surprised just how fruity and juicy this was, with no hint of raisins/prunes that so often characterize Amarone. Decanted for 30 minutes, and both fruit and tannins retreated, leaving a well-balanced, food-savvy wine. We had this with pork chops grilled with prosciutto. However, after 90 minutes this was really singing!! The tannins were now well-integrated, the black cherry, tobacco and spice were really well balanced, and this was simply delicious in a way that not too many Amarone are in my experience. I dare to say excellent QPR at $38.00. Score one for taking a flyer on an unknown bottle every once in a while!
