  • Overall this comes across as a heavy deep purple fruit bomb, although the fruit is rather delicious. Alcohol is front and center, and the wine is a tad on the sweet side. Super over-ripe strawberries, peach pie, red fruit driven kirsch, ripe purple plums, dark alcohol marinated cherries. Tannins holding steady but not a super dominant component. Not really my style, but will admit that it's rather delicious if you can appreciate the hedonistic approach.

  • This seems to be after its drinking window... just odd

  • After someone pulled a 2014 Andrew Will Columbia Valley Cabernet, my thoughts immediately focused on this wine. I had thought this one was all to the brambly and savory side. And, given that this Cabernet from Andrew Will was definitely on the red cherry herbal side, I thought that it would have provided a great contrast. Pulled the cork on this wine to a rather dirty black cherry kind of nose. After pouring this a dark dirty maroon to the glass, the nose showed a dusty red rose, anise, and medium++ mineral driven density Merlot that is brambly yet smooth on the palate and already showing refined red fruit character. This is a little medicinal, and truffle is present here towards the finish. No one at the table guessed that this was a $35 bottle of Columbia Valley Merlot! A really good red fruited and herbal dense wine. Finishes with a refined tannin character that has softened quite a bit since initial release. This is not going to get any better so if you have this, drink it up but was very impressed with this wine today. Drink now with a 30 minute decant!

  • A very different Merlot that showed some dusty fruit to it. It went well with the mole sauce but I can see how it would not with lighter fare.

  • great nose, very dark and opaque, Big fruit, blackberries is the right all, with a coating that lasts. It's a little sweet and syrup'ish, but a nice wine.
