  • Opened three hours prior to drinking over the next 3. Black, inky wine- fully extracted. Loads of raw oak in the nose, sweet black fruit, earth, and dried fruit. Seems like a hot year with some later picking- I am expecting super full, fruit/oak bomb, but not that sweet supple oak- it's that rough hewn woody oak. In the mouth, nose confirmed. Full body, tons of glycol in the mouth, lower fruit acid, high tannin. Wood. Wood. Wood. Pruney and black fruit flavors, noticeable alcohol on the finish. I want to like this- but it's just not my style. Way too heavy, hot, dislike the pruney characteristic. Had with grilled ribeye which made it passable though.

  • Portuguese Table wines (Ray's Home): Inky purple in color. The nose has dark cherries and leather. A good amount of american oak. I did not pick this out as Syrah, but I enjoyed this expression of it. On the palate, very tannic. Needs time. Chocolate and black raspberries and oak. Very deep as it slowly unwinds and integrates in the glass. Kept getting better all night long.
