Oooh, this has come a bit too far. Deep sherry color. Still the nose is not overtly oxidized, but a kind of oxidation that comes naturally over time. At first a honey tone, then a mix of nuts and camphor wood kicks in to make an impression an oloroso sherry. There is still a freshness here. Full bodied attack, almost a sweet tone at first in the vein of honey. On the mid palate the wine tightens up, and nutty sherry tones take over. The finish is fresh, and lifted by some citrus tones, while the aftertaste is nutty and marked by some dry wood and camphor. Long. This is clearly a good wine that has aged gracefully into what is probably what you can expect from an aged Alsace white wine. But now it is too old. For those interested in antiquities.

Drinking a good Alsace Riesling with matured French cheese is really something everybody should try. The fullness and slight hint of sweetness accompagnies all types of cheeses (creamy ones like Brie, as well as hard ones like Comte) almost perfectly. This one has gained fine aging colour, almost golden yellow. Intense nose of sweet exotic fruit (peach, pineapple, lichi) as well as that classic Riesling tone of petroleum. Full bodied with a clear sweetness. Tastes of peach, ripe pear and lichi, as well as a fine mineral tone. Although the main impression is sweet, the wine is not at all cloying. The aftertaste is clean, quite fresh, and of medium length. Fully evolved now, but will clearly keep for at least five years (I have to admit that my experience with aging Alsace Rieslings for a long time is limited, they are just to good to drink young).

Straw gold colour. Open, really smoky nose, with background citrus notes. On palate, wonderful tangy acidity, faintest sweet touch to balance the freshness, lovely citrus and lime fruit. Minerally, almost salty texture on the long finish. Very, very nice wine, so moreish and a more finely etched expression of Bergbieten than the 2011.

Deep straw yellow. Nose of beeswax, lime and apple. Lively acidity and very mineral on the palate, very slight balanced sweetness. Was a bit muted on 2nd day but bounced back on day 3 with fruit coming forward again.

Smokey petrolly nose. Good smooth fatty mouthfeel, complex mineral-driven almost-dry taste. Strong finish. Wine to pair with food.
