  This bottle bought a few months back in response to our last bottle that was really, really good. I seem to like Cali Malbec more than the French or Argentinian versions overall. This bottle? Average at best. But I have no idea of knowing how this bottle was stored over the past 8-9 years, however I can say the fruit was not as juicy, smooth or the bottle as energetic. This bottle seemed a bit muted or tired. I took 2 days to finish it as it didn't really thrill me the first night. No big difference one way or the other the second night. If my last bottle had been like this, I would not have sought out this additional bottle.

  Picked up this lone bottle at a local store, obviously someone selling off their last bottle of a few things through the shop....which I don't think is legal here in Florida, however.....I used to be a member of this maker and buy this one every year, which was only available to members and at their tasting room on Pritchard Hill. Pnp'd to tacos for dinner and right from the start this '14 is singing. Fully resolved, integrated and together. Mature and in a great drinking window. Soft, silky black fruit, creamy tannins in the background. Black olive and florals on the nose, no sense of color lightening in the glass even at 9 years of age. One of the things that attracts me to Cali Malbec is that it does not have the green, stemmy, heavy herbal notes that so many South American producers flaunt. In fact, one might be hard pressed to even tell this entry is a Malbec, at all, unless you really smell deeply and launch yourself into it. Carol gave this a 93, I am leaning to a 94 only because it's in its perfect place right as I type. Wish I had more.......

  Bright cherries but balanced, soft tannins. Should be good with our skirt steak
