Opened for 3 hours. Color is deep ruby with an orange rim. On the nose: Violets, pepper, cassis, beef bouillon , dark chocolate and plum. On the palate: Rose, violets, red berry liquor, pepper, licorice, plum and dark chocolate. Round flavors , great fruit without being jammy. Mouthfeel is light and elegant. This is superb and has a lot of life left. This is one of two bottles I bought many years ago. I will hold on to the second to see how it evolves. Incredible wine.

Very elegant as contrast to Bordeaux like Grange. Red fruits and roses on the nose. The palate shows red berry compote with some light mint and tobacco leaf. Delicate wine with sophistication. Drink now.

The 2001 Henschke Hill of Grace showed sweet notes and a medium body, oak is unnoticeable at this stage and the finish is short. As per instructions from the winery I didn’t decant the wine, just opened it around 30-40 minutes before pouring it in the glasses, we drank it over the next 10-20 minutes...
This wine was supposed to be the star of the night, based on the pedigree and price paid that was the expectation. Instead is was beaten by a 2004 Colgin Herb Lamb and 2012 LeMacchiole Messorio. I was disappointed.

From the land down under - Q4 Wine Club (The Apt): Wine #6: I was excited to try one of these again. You don't find them all that often and they are just really well done wines. When first poured this was more cough syrup. Clearly some age and already had sediment. If we had been smart would have strained and decanted, but so it goes. Lots of mint and menthol after the cough syrup and then the bright red fruits start to poke through. This was a wine that evolved every time I went back to revisit and was still just getting better (although I did mark the first taste as 'tasty'). Will wait a bit on our other bottle but interesting to see. (5 pennies)
