This is Bourgogne regional appellation in name only as the vineyard is located at the northernmost end of the Côte d Or and was singled out for its unique quality centuries before the advent of the AOC system. The nose is spectacular. Floral, kaleidoscopic. Pot pourrri, spices, cinnamon. Up there with the best Grand Crus noses I have had. The palate does not reach the same heights of Tier 1 GC. While balance and weight are Impeccable there could be more layers to the palate and finish could have more zing and resonance.

PNP into Spiegelau Burgundy glass (“Fruit” day): Pale bright garnet to the eyes.
Incredibly complex nose yet so subtle with sous bois, dried leaves and mushroom undergrowth notes that set this apart. Luxurious dark red and black cherry fruits and black tea leaves that sets this apart.
Super suave on palate with bright acidity, some petillance and high amount of dry extracts that matches so well with the more supple and silky texture tannins. Very long finish.
What an amazing showing of what this plot is capable of. 95-96 points.
Second pour, 4/5 left: egg white reductive notes upfront that does not bother. Luxurious bouquet of dried florals, rose petals, dark tea leaves that is unique to this cuvee.
Third pour, 1/2 left: what an amazing bouquet now with even more woody and sandalwood notes. A little inky with more purplish fruits too.
Fourth pour, 1/3 left: a lot more saline and less about fruit now but more about penetration with minerality than richness.

Acker Merrall Bicentennial Gala (Cipriani Wall Street - New York NY): Small glass, brief note. Bottle directly from the domaine. Dense red cherries everywhere, mostly ripe but very complex and layered.Ripe start, then an increasing degree of nuance starting emerging from everywhere. An exceptional Bourgogne, but market priced accordingly.
