Tasted as part of a vertical with commentary by Lamberto Frescobaldi and Gaia Cinnirella, winemaker, just a slight step behind the 2001, with dark fruit, blackberry, plum, notes of cedar, still youthful with years to go, definitely a wow!

I've had this wine a couple times, but not for 9yrs now...It's always been a massive beast, dark, liqueured, and silky smooth...absolutely brilliant each time. Open in bottle for 9hrs, then splash decanted...a LOT more red fruits this time...showing bright blood orange acidity against the crushed cherries, plum, and currents...still SILKY smooth plush, with dusty cedar spiced tannins...nuances of smoke, leather, licorice, and dried roses...even some mint and dried tobacco leaf...the wine kept giving and giving...darkening and becoming more complex as the night went on. Gorgeous aged Bordeaux-esk with a little Italian twang to it...such a wonderful wine!

we knew it and expected it yet still managed to be astonished by this wine's gorgeous showing. nose showing hints of pine and smoke and mouth chalk full of velvety dark fruit, with cocoa on the long finish. juicy, yet tannic, this wine was stunning yet shows no sign of decline; my words don't really do it justice; this wine is a true force of nature and we were all in awe and grateful to have the opportunity to drink it.

Shrooms, black wet earth, touch of fruit-blackberry/cassis (as opposed to almost none in the '97), more fresh, more tannic, slightly more acidic than the '97. Bordeaux-like, cigar, foresty notes, nice tangy berry finish.Masseto dinner at Rocco Borgese 1997-2015.

This was a beautiful wine and fully developed at this stage. Tobacco, cedar, sandlewood. Just so many layers with fully resolved tannins.
