  • Pop and pour. Pure gold in color. Settled since my last btl, and seems very much GG now. On the nose: pure slate, soft guava, intoxicating perfume of lemon, crushed herbs, peach. On the palate: fantastic acidity, dense peach, mint, cucumber. So juicy, my mouth keeps watering. Looooong finish. The best Niederberg Helden I've had?

I see there has been a lot of variation on these btls, so I am thankful this is so solid.

  • Ever so slightly corked but you could still tell what was going on. Cork in worrying condition, quite wet to half way down. Reasonably advanced golden colour. Nose was detracted from by the cork taint but on the palate there was quite heavy peachiness and even a botrytis character (although this could also have been the cork taint speaking). Shame. Although judging by others' notes this is already quite advanced and there seem to be some other bad bottles.

  • Pretty advanced, maybe an off bottle but would rather drink up than hold much longer.

  • Bright yellow color. Exotic nose, mango and ripe apricot, yellow fruit, sweet. High acidity on the palate, mineral, salty, fruit suppressed, slightly reductive, yet it appears a bit immature and inharmonious. Not a bad wine but disappointing when it comes to the higher demands of a GG in terms of tension, precision, harmony, depth, complexity and class.

  • My first time with this vntg. More spatlese on the nose than GG: lovely guava and mango, a touch of saffron, lychee, so tropical and dense. On the palate: good acidity and density: sour apple, lemon, here we get the GG extract and density. This intensifies in the mouth and has considerable density on the finish. Yum. Less well-delineated than '15 forward, and, unsurprisingly, showing more signs of age.
