  • This is a delicious dry rendition of Zibibbo, aka Muscat of Alexandria. The nose is very aromatic with intense ripe stone fruit, fuji apple, jasmine, mint, honeydew melon and sweet tropical fruit aromas (pineapple, passion fruit). The palate, however, whipsaws your expectations with its dry, crisp attack, bracing acidity, medium alcohol and clean, minerally finish. The palate is predominantly juicy, ripe, citrus, with lemon, lime and grapefruit. This is a great summer wine and is drinking well now. It is not likely to benefit from aging.

  • Sicily-Tasting, Flight 1, Wine 1: A dry white made from Zibibbo (Moscato d'Alessandria). It was light yellow-green in colour and offered and expressive nose of floral notes, citrus, kiwi and chalk. On the palate the wine showed floral notes, citrus, green apple and kiwi, complemented by mild saltiness on the mildly phenolic finish, with fresh, lively acidity and very good length. A balanced, medium-bodied, well-made white. A fun wine. Drink now and over the next two to three years.

  • Huge peachy aromas and flavors. Punchy and fresh. Minerals and floral notes too. Interesting wine. More: http://pavineco.com/donnafugata-lighea-2014/

  • Very pale color with a bouquet and flavor at best hinting of diluted fruit, in this case citrus, with mineral notes as well. Like many Italian whites, this wine's acidity and lack of offensiveness make it pleasant and easy to drink, if uninspiring. It is a mistake to try to conjure up too much in the way of smells and flavors in these wines, as they clearly have very little of either. This by no means applies to all Italian whites, some with much more definition and character.
