Colour impenetrable deep ruby clear edges 15/15 Nose Initially aromas of black currants, violets and chocolate. Underlying earthy notes, spicy dark fruit, bramble and a hint of oak. 28/30 Palate med intensity and elegant–blackberries intertwined with savoury, aniseed and cinnamon stick flavours–refined tannin and a long, complex finish. 42/44 Overall great balance and harmony feminine style Shiraz with great floral notes I like this wine 10/11

This has the most alcohol of the trio here of "different styles of New Zealand Syrah". Some 14%. High clay content in the soils. Grapes can hang longer, explained Madeleine Stenwreth MW. The feel is actually quite concentrated and rich yet balanced. It has a certain "floral energy" - and perhaps the fact that 2012 being a very cool vintage helped. Overall, I like the feel. It is not heavy handed, has balance and is tasty if a bit simple. As the vines age, will get better.

Game of Rhones (Carriageworks, Redfern): blackberry and pepper, new oak…Juicy and fleshy, black fruits, talc textured tannins but not overtly sweet. Well balanced. Long. Excellent in fact.
