Had a few bottles of this but it needed a roast lamb dinner to really let it shine. Needed a good three hours or so of airing. Smallish nose of blackberry cheesecake, velvet cushions and Play-Doh. Mouth of salted plums, aniseed and chestnuts. Medium finish of cranberries and sawdust-encrusted woodworking bench.

130 year old Grenache that for 30 years it made Riesling and then they cut the tops off to put back on Grenache. This is probably the fourth vintage after cutting the vines off. THey were probably dropping 6 - 7 tons per acre because young grenache likes to go nuts. Needs half the water of Shiraz. Tries to make Grenache that is Grenache. To Ben its like a big rich Pinot. Letting it hang is where you get all the cinnamon nutmeg and beautiful perfumes.

Game of Rhones (Carriageworks, Redfern): Quite perfumed red berry fruit over clay notes and glue scents. Slight sour red fruit, short, drying flour-textured tannins. Meh
