Gorgeous St Joseph. Needs a year or two to peak, now it’s better 2nd day. Thrilling classic nose: lilac, lavender, iron dust, chocolate, strawberries, wisteria. Light body but intense flavors of wild strawberries , garrigue, and bittersweet chocolate with a quick midpalate surge of metallic tannin, more of that iron dust and granite on the finish. Try with a simple pan seared duck breast, with pan juices deglazed with some culinary lavender, asian plum sauce and a bit of this wine. Chapoutier once again balances exotica and typicity as few can. Drink now- 2025.
