  • U3. A little celery and light on fruit but still has depth. PNP at Iconiq.

  • This was just ok, well balanced and quite drinkable, but also clearly faded and a bit of a dry earth character. Drink up!

  • This was shockingly alive, perfect cellaring def a factor. This displayed layered fruit flavors with a touch of licorice and herbaceous notes. Wine was consistent and kicking for 2 hours of enjoyment before starting to fade completely into tertiary flavors. So much more to be said, will be hunting for more of these.
    --------------------- Detailed Notes--------------------
Despite the bottle appearing to have just come off the bottling line, I was very fearful of a DOA situation; so, I opened the bottle about 30 minutes before dinner. A quick taster confirm that we had an amazing wine before us with dark red & black cherry notes meeting me as I approached the glass. Given the success of the taster decided against any decanting or changes that could impact the wine, also really minimal sediment it appeared the wine had been standing for a couple weeks. In the glass a charming aged red ruby with some brick coloring as you swirled, again a lot more vibrancy in the color than one would guess. First glasses provided additional cheery notes, hits of plum, a touch of licorice sweetness, mint, herbs, allspice and other herbaceousness. On the palate there was a delightful vanilla, cherry licorice sweetness that was so silky and devein cutting across the other flavors. Wine is still capable of completely mouthcoating and demands your full attention with the medley of flavors, finish is full and extended to the next sip. Wine really started to fade after about 2 hours opened and became completely tertiary flavored focused for the final glass.

Rarely do I look up ratings, but was too curious given the age. In 1995, Robert Parker gave this wine 95 points, which I have to say I totally agree even 30 years in. However, he did say to drink over 12-15 years and with proper cellaring these still have years ahead. At least Wine Spectator just said drink after 1997. lol
