  • From 75cl screwcap. This magnificent Hock from a great producer in an "off" year showed beautifully this evening. My four previous TNs basically stand, only: now it's entering maturity, it has gained a plunging, dark "earthy" depth of Künstler-apricot-tinged fruit and an architectural balance of acidity and "mineral" structure not previously evident (to me, at least). Now this is up there with my happiest memories of Domdechaney, from vintages dating back to 1999. 91P

  • From 75cl screwcap. Two depressing things about this wonderful Hock. 1) There are so few bottles out there that I'm almost the only person writing TNs (Madera16 on 13.06.2019, I salute you). 2) The major retailer seems to be Costco... I was right on 06.10.2020, this needed weighty food, in this case Wolfram Siebeck's salmon in cream sauce with walnuts, but that sure makes it spring to attention, and release all the coiled apricot/vivid acid power I associate with Künstler's Domdechaney. Lovely long, resonant finish. A very different, more weighty wine than the Hölle Kabinett trocken 2014 tasted a couple of days ago, but outstanding wine nonetheless. No hurry. 90-91P

  • From 75cl screwcap, opened but not decanted one hour. As previously noted: for my palate the least balanced and least attractive of Künstler‘s core Lagen (Hölle, Kirchenstück and Domdechaney) in 2014. Weighty apricot fruit not sustained by sufficient structure to be in balance. Fine Riesling nonetheless, best paired with fat, rich food. Choucroute with all the trimmings, perhaps? Or a really creamy chicken dish? 87-88P

  • From 75cl screwcap. Big, golden, peachy/apricot-like, weighty in comparison to Künstler's 2014 Kirchenstück Riesling trocken tasted a few days ago. For me the lesser wine in this vintage (usually I am a big fan of Domdechaney). No sign of the unpleasant fizz and volatile elements I recorded on 14.02.2020. Odd to find such bottle variation within a case bought and stored together under screwcap... No hurry at all, possible upside. 89P(+?)
