This is a nice Rioja rose (Riscal puts "rose" on the label instead of the Spanish "rosado". Perhaps that is only for the US market?
The blend is 60/40 Tempranillo/Garnacha.
The color is a beautiful and delicate onion skin/salmon. It is much more orange than pink which is unusual for Spanish rose. (A Spanish wine professional told me that the Spanish wine market generally prefers darker colored, more intense, roses.)
The wine shows delicate flavors of raspberry, strawberry and cherry, with a nice "wet rocks" minerality on the finish. It isn't very complex, but then, most $10 roses aren't. It is exactly what I want in an inexpensive rose - delicate with nice fruit, good minerality and a refreshing finish. It is better than most Spanish roses in that it doesn't even come close to the Bubble Gum/Candied/Flabby style that all-too-often typifies Spanish rosado.
Pair this with anything from fish tacos to steak salad.
