Open in the bottle for an hour; nose is a little rubbery, concentrated, dusty leather, raspberry jam. Palate is a little thin but has a nice va complexity, lifted with umami, red berries, more dusty leather. Finish is a little short, and volatile notes are a little prominent otherwise this would be much better. Still good though.

No significant development since last note. Some secondary notes on the nose with leather and mushrooms, mature plums. This will age well and there's definitely no rush. The '12 have been generous and approachable from release imo.

From magnum. Smoke, herbs, and graphite over some red pitted fruits. A few mature notes of mushroom and earth. Some chalky tannins underneath holding the frame together. Medium bodied. A "proper luncheon claret".

Sour red berries with a racy blood orangy acidity, dusty minerality with hints of smoke and pencil lead, maraschino cherries and a fernet-branca-esque herbaceousness (can’t sort it in any more detail than this). As always, a very nice wine. This is the least green Le Puy Emilien I’ve ever had, curiously, this coincides with this being the oldest one I’ve ever had.
