  • {screwcap, 14%} Deep garnet red. Fruity nose, ripe with sweet vanilla oak, strawberries, blueberries. Very young too. The palate is as disjointed as you'd expect for this age; it does have some rather obvious grainy tannins making an attempt at structural support, although there's such a riot of ripe fruit and alcoholic warmth that they struggle to hold up. The wine does sit mostly on the front palate; the ripe red fruits are obvious too; the constituent grapes are listed as franc/merlot/cab sav on the label; certainly the plummy merlot seems to be to the fore, and the franc is very fruity and young. Plenty of (dry) flavour and medium/full-bodied presence for the (sub-$20) price; a couple of years will help meld things together, but don't expect improvement beyond 5 years.
