  • Lovely, very classic Burgundy nose with wild strawberry notes, cherries, underwood, and spices. Good acidity with quite a bit of tannins (as expected given the vintage) and more berry notes, forest floor, and baking spices on the palate. Nice finish. This was drinking really well!

  • May 14, Have had three of these over the last two years, this is the most evolved and most enjoyable. Colour is now maturing, nose is somewhat subdued, a lot of extract in the mouth with dried red cherries prevailing, long aftertaste. Pleasantly surprised at the quality level. Ready now but no rush.

  • Quick decant. Wonderful spices on the nose. Palate is deep and full with cardamom and black pepper. Ultra smooth finish. This is just barely getting into the drinking window.

  • Blind Pinots (Prairie Grass Cafe): Blind. Aromas have a good herbal quality and more black cherry than red cherry. Palate follows suit with nice herbs/earth/meat. Good balance and juiciness. Old world sensibility, for sure. Give this time. Upside from here.

  • 13% alcohol. Tasted half-blind.

Luminous, translucent cherry red color. Somewhat restrained and slightly sappy nose with aromas of ripe strawberries, some dried herbs, a little bit of crunchy lingonberry, light sweeter notes of black cherries, a hint of earth and a somewhat lifted, herbal touch of mint. The wine is moderately full-bodied, dry and vibrant on the palate with ripe and juicy yet somewhat robust flavors of black raspberries, sour cherry bitterness, some sour red plums, a little bit of peppery spice, light and well-integrated woody notes of savory oak spice, a hint of tomato and a touch of earthy Pinosity. Nicely structured feel here with high acidity and very ample, ripe tannins that feel less grippy and more textural, lending somewhat substantial, chewy texture to the mouthfeel. The finish is spicy, dry and somewhat grippy with robust flavors of peppery Pinosity, sour cherry bitterness, some crunchy cranberry tones, a little bit of savory oak spice, light woody tones, a hint of tart lingonberry and a touch of earth.

A very classically built, firm and relatively robust Gevrey-Chambertin with quite complete overall feel and well-integrated oak that barely shows underneath the firm, robust fruit and earthier spices. Yet even though the wine seems to be holding its game well together, it is also remarkably youthful for its age, not exhibiting any real sense of maturity or tertiary characteristics at this point. No hurries whatsoever with this wine, based on this taste it will hold on for decades more.
