Colour: Dark almost impenetrable violet. Bouquet of black berries, black currants and cedar tree. Taste of Dark berries, black berries, black currants, smoke, sour dark cherries. Quite high acid and tannins, but smooth tannins and complex taste. Aftertaste has good length and tannins coat my mouth and teeth. It’s a powerful wine even after ten years and I think it has potential for at several years (5-15?) of further cellaring. This is a very good wine that would go well with a good steak or a beef stew.

Early reviews said jammy and stewed fruit, but that is not the impression tonight. Thick and viscous in the glass, the color is dark ruby. White pepper, licorice and blackberry dominate the nose, with a discreet iodine touch and a sweetness that reveals a warm climate/vintage. On the palate it is very ripe but not overly so, peppery and filled with black fruit balanced by a garrigue-like freshness, perhaps stemming from the 13% cab sauv? Tannins present but sweet, all in all a highly drinkable but food-wise quite demanding wine.

Very good vintage. A wonderful Syrah from Chile. If you have the chance, don't miss out.
