Last Tuesday Supper Club (One Penny Red, Summer Hill): Ripe but not overtly so, blackberry, plum, sweet spice, plenty of oak - vanilla, caramel, a little raisining as well. And this is reflected on the palate, plenty of alcohol, residual sugar, soft tannins and, oddly, a little red currant note as well. The nose is better than the palate for me.

Sydney good food and wine show (Olympic Park, Homebush, Sydney): dense and concentrated black fruit, cream, touches of black cherry and sweet spice…slight bitterness to the fruit, long, fine talc-textured tannins, touches of liquorice, sweet black cherry, very nice.
