Part of a 6 bottle BDX showdown. This was the oldest of the bunch. It’s tertiary with wet leaves and brown apple, overall past its prime and the finish fades fast. Fun for a half glass but that’s it.
Balsamic, muted on the palate. a little past the peak, my wife and I detect some minor TCA on the nose, but not obvious on the palate. The fruit might have been suppressed by TCA. One of those cursed bottles on 88’ and several vintages onwards that got impacted by the treatment on wooden rafters. The air-con circulated the TCA in the treatment and likely ‘infected’ the wines that exposed to oxygen during racking. The problem was fixed after commissioning the new chais.

Cigar box, bit of earth, plum, cherry; long finish; dry; medium- body; medium- tannin; medium slightly tart acid
Overall thoughts: Good wine, but lacking vibrancy, especially in comparison to the '79 Mayacamas enjoyed along side of it.
