black cherry, blackberry jam, brown spice, raspberries, blueberries, spiced plum, cedar, pepper, coffee, and dried herbs. T
rich, opulent with black fruits lots of baking spice. slightly herbal mid palate, slight heat on the back palate. drink up, doubt the tannins and acid can hold this for much longer

A rustic Cabernet-based blend that is drinking well at the moment and, although it lacks the depth of the best from Napa, is a savory and complex (albeit a bit funky) wine. Cherry red in color, medium in body, nose of black cherry, leather, and menthol. Tastes of boysenberry, tar, bay leaf, and cedar, with a chalky and somewhat dry finish. 14.5% alcohol. Blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Sangiovese, 23% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Malbec.
I'm still in search of the compelling CA Cabernet outside of the Bay Area (e.g., Napa, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains). I think Jonata is the real deal, but I haven't found much else. Despite the WE score (95?!), this doesn't seem ready for the big leagues - a bit too thin, herbal, and dusty (the last characteristic I've found with a lot of Santa Barbara / Paso Robles Bordeaux blends). Fans of the Old World should give it a try, but it just seemed a bit too light to be truly impressive.
