On first taste, disappointingly devoid of fruit. Some cherry seems to be creeping in after 20 minutes, but this bottle has definitely gone over the edge. As one of my preferred Madonna Estate offerings, I was hoping for more. Acid dominates the finish. Tannins have completely fled. Can we save the reputation with some tertiary notes? Let us concentrate...The soil, a confluence of clay, comes through , hints of floral notes, with slightly cooked (Matthew would ask, 'baked or stewed?') cherry. Now I'm leaning toward sour cherry (tertiary, to be sure). Is it drinkable? Yes. Is it what it once was? No, but then, neither am I, so, who's to criticize?
