  • An amazing, elegant cabernet with bright red fruit. It has a great depth, round mouthfeel, layers of flavors and complexity and a long, smooth finish.

  • I have been drinking and enjoying Elan Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon since 2002. I have enjoyed 6 bottles of this vintage since it's release and would have to say that his is by far the best Elan vintage I can remember and one of my favorite California Cabs this year! The wine is full of black fruits, extremely well balanced; the tannins are already smooth and soft. Really, really excellent. I enjoyed every sip & will need to have a considerable amount of strength to restrain myself so that I can let those bottles age a bit more as I believe they will improve even more with some further aging in the cellar.
The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle.

  • Vertical tasting of Elan Vineyards Atlas Peak Cabernet 2011-2012-2013 at Perrone's Restaurant in Pawleys Island, SC.

2011 - Decanted. Elegant and restrained with a muted nose of black fruit with tannins that were extremely soft but left an aftertaste of chalk and mineral. Excellent with duck and sweet carrots. Not going to last long as the 12 or 13.

2012 - Decanted. More of everything compared to the 11. Darker with more depth of fruit and hefty tannins that create a chewy mouthfeel. The wine really popped with the fatty bits of a 45 day dry aged steak. It'll be interesting to see what happens to this wine over time.

2013 - Not Decanted. In your face Napa cab. Dark in the glass. Smooth tannins well integrated with blue & back berries on the palate. Absolutely brilliant wine that is built for the long haul. The star of the night!

    2013 - 96
