Not bad. Unfortunately I forgot about this wine and now in 2019 this 2012 vintage seems a little lackluster in terms of fruit and freshness. So in all fairness I'll try to compensate by adding half an extra star. Red berries and cherries combined with fine layers of wood, vanilla, sweet tobacco and spices. The taste is soft and velvety and with very soft tannins. Had I only opened this bottle 3 years ago I think this wine would have had these lovely secondary notes plus a fresh and vibrant fruity taste.

The Torres wine company is huge. It produces and bottles more wine in Spain and throughout the world than some entire denominations in some countries. Their Altos Ibericos Rioja offering is another bland, one dimensional wine that is correctly made but instantly forgettable. Why would a famous and successful Catalan wine producer want to suddenly jump on the Rioja bandwagon? To make bundles and bundles of easy money, of course. Lean, medium bodied, a hint of wood ageing and as dead as a doornail. Very mediocre. Slick packaging and a cool name will ensure this sells all day long in airport shops.

Cherries with oaky vanilla. A touch of development on nose and palate. As a low-end crianza for mid-week consumption this does well for me. Drink now.
