Community Tasting Notes (10) Median Score: 89 points

  • Well, some big pro scores on this one. Of course 99 and 94 coming from the bloated bosom buddies of Luca Maroni and James Suckling, respectively, the former generally being a red flag for me these days, tbh.

At any rate, big heavy bottle is the first thing of note. Dense, opaque black in the glass with purplish ruby at the very edges. Aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, graphite, and some violet pouring out of the glass. Full body, medium acid and finish, with flavors of jammy and a little stewed black and blue fruits, along with a little lemon, orange, and minerals. Tannins are gripping the teeth a bit post meal, but the BBQ pairing was pretty appropriate here. Long legs FWIW (not much).

I dunno; it's about what I expected based on critics here, which is to say, a little fruity, a little blowsy, a little cooked, some RS showing, and yet also kinda falls off from the mid-palate through the finish. Certainly not in my wheelhouse, but not offensive either. It's aight.

  • Nose of chocolate, dry wood, pickled cherries, some prune and dark berries. Full body, quite round, slightly jammy and some wood in the taste.

  • Marmelade. But I like the whole wow effect of black berries and spices.

  • However the wine is ok it was yesterday way too sweet for my taste and liking. It was like there were only cherries, cherries and cherries. Black, purple, red and yellow cherries.
I decanted the wine for at least 4 hours but nothing else happened. We opened up a nice Toro instead. Perhaps today on day 2 things have changes for the better.

  • New world style of taurasi. Big, bold, jammy styles with layers of glycerin and minerals. Alcoholic but manages to keep its finish and provide lots of hedonistic pleasure. There is a risk this doesn't age well in terms of balance but for now it provides enjoyable drinking.
