  • Bought these about five years ago, and it's been about a year since I've last opened one. This is the last of the purchased bottles from the vineyard, and this wine is firing. This is a 50/50 blend of Merlot and Petit Verdot, and the verdot is dark and dense but the Merlot influence is certainly there as well. Nose of truffle, black fruit, tar. Entry still has quite a bit of youthful dark blackberry cassis, some plum, fig, truffle was more on the nose than on the palate. Finishes still with a lot of dry oak tannin, which was a bit of a surprise. I do feel that this one might change a bit in the next 1-2 years, but I'm not sure that this additional time in the bottle will actually make it any better. What a nice, complex wine. I think this one could probably hold another 10-15 years, but I expect a fair amount of tertiary notes starting to come into play here. A really nice wine by Paradigm.

  • This Merlot/PV combo is SINGING. Round throughout, medium++ bodied wine. Still has a lot of sweet black cherry cola and blackberry notes throughout. But also has a floral nature on the nose and entry while also seeming to have a little bit of a darker side that permeates towards the finish with an herbal character. A surprising amount of pepper on the finish with tannins that have definitely softened over the years. I think this wine is really ready to drink right now as a pop and pour. I did not decant this one, and I don't think I missed anything by not doing so. One more bottle left. I'm sure it will be opened sooner than later given how this one presented! Will try to look for more as well as I feel this one could go another 7 to 10 years without a doubt!

  • Enjoyed tonight with Pizza. It's amazing how this wine has developed in the last year. Floral nose, with some black cherry funk on both the nose and entry. These notes slowly blew off and left a full bodied presence with some black cherry, oregano, floral. Still quite a bit of tannin in the finish. Has quite a bit of life ahead of it with excellent structure!

  • Enjoyed tonight, and this wine is really quite honestly right in the wheelhouse. Served pop and pour. The wine starts with a hint of floral elegance alongside darker notes of blackberry and black cherry. Quite dense on the palate. The middle of the wine is where this one turns just a little bit darker, and I think that this is where the power of the Merlot starts to come out. The wine finishes with a floral essence and a hint of sweetness, with darker black fruits in the front and middle. Still quite a bit of stiff oak tannin on the finish. The wine will probably benefit from another 2 yrs of bottle aging, and I expect this wine to be rather good going all the way to 2024, although BARELY approachable now.
