  • First of seven bottles.
Cork in excellent condition. Wine not decanted.
It became immediately clear that this wine was cloudy; not bottled very clean.
The hue is excellent for a 25 year old wine with little browning. Next time, I will stand bottles upright longer and decant just prior to serving.
The aromas match my expectations with substantial evolved fruit on cherry and plum side, an assortment of baking spices as well as earthy notes. It's clearly on the more rustic side as you would also find in Fixin and Marsannay.
There's enough tannin structure still to provide the necessary framework combined with a smooth texture and the lively acidity which give the 1996s so much life.
    Enjoy over next 5-10 years.
    Ridiculous value at $ 25.
