  • This wine is holding steady. Brambly dark fruit and some plummy sweetness. Med+ tannin still but in good balance with the solid acidity and concentration of flavors. Good length with some tertiary notes of leather and cigar box starting to show up. I think this will continue to age nicely. Longish (4+ hours minimum) now, longer if able. Or better yet, wait 5 years.

  • Beautiful showing. 3 years since my last, not entirely convincing bottle, and this is back to old form. A nose that can only be Bdx, dark fruit with great freshness, perfectly integrated wood spices. Good structure from the tannins which are however well integrated. Medium body with good concentration. Medium finish, could be longer but hey this is a (great) Cru Bourgeois. One of the few 05s that never shut down, and for sure good for another 10 years. Super QPR - paid $40 back then and would not be surprised if you could still find it at similar prices.

  • Pure elegant pleasure from the first drop to the last. Classic pencil shavings with subtle hints of black fruits.

  • Getting a large dose of new wood out of the gate on the nose. The palate has more to say with the wood just joining the conversation. The aromas fade slowly. By night two its well integrated into a nicely dark and surprisingly deep wine. Not real complex but complete. In a maturing place. Solid.

  • Wonderful St. Estephe which really aged gracefully.
The bouquet started with dark cassis notes and some cedar. With extra time some meaty, umami notes develop.
The tannins are soft and melting but it has a good structure and length to develop beautiful and be enjoyable over the next decade or more.

(Château Phélan Ségur) Dark red violet color; toasty oak, pain grillé nose; tasty, plush but tart cassis, red plum palate with the Cab Franc showing; medium finish (49% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc)
