Drank this on Tony Calandra’s G450 with him, Ron Keating and Jimmy Brock on the way to Pebble Beach Invitational…it was the best Chardonnay I have ever drank

Haven't opened a high end win in some time. But tonight, I made lobster ravioli and decided to pop this. Bought on release through the mailing list. Cellared ever since with appropriate temp and humidity, under ground and then in a free standing unit. Cork was pristine. No ullage. Color was straw to light golden. Nose was interestingly citrus; by turns lemon curd, lime and mandarin orange. A touch of honeysuckle. Nothing heavy. If there is oak or butterscotch, I don't get that now. The flavors in the mouth are similar. There are some mildly exotic spices as well. Don't ask me to name them, but they are there. Mildly so. Complex. The finish is amazingly long. Persistent flavors and aromas as above. One bottle left. I'm not in a rush, but this is clearly low hanging fruit.

Compared to my note of two years ago, this when opened tonight did not really resemble when it did back then! I think this one is starting to head off to the happy hunting grounds. Popcorn kernel seemed to be a primary note here. Fruit structure was a little bit strange. Don't think it was corked. If you have a few of these, you might want to start putting them into your regular rotation!

(Marcassin Chardonnay Zio Tony Ranch) Bright light medium canary yellow color; reduction, a little oxidized, oaky, hazelnut and savory nose; better on palate: ripe lemon, citrus, cream palate with good acidity; short finish 90+ pts.

Excellent balance of acidity, buttery oak and yellow/tropical fruit. Opulent and even a bit viscous and yet mellow. In a very good place, right now.
