2014 Domaine Joblot Givry Pied de Chaume showed good balance of primary red fruits and tertiary complexities. The maturing village-level Pinot Noir was clear and pale garnet in colour with a noticeable amount of fine sediments. It took two hours of in-bottle aeration to open up agreeable perfume of dried strawberry, red cherry, violet, liqourice and a hint of forest floor.
The mouthfeel was dry and medium-bodied, accompanied by medium level of grainy tannin and medium-high level of acidity. There were flavours of sour cherry, cranberry, dried rose petals, earth and a touch of Worcestershire sauce in a medium tart finish. It was a pleasant experience to explore an entry-level Pinot in its early maturity. The alcohol level was at 13%. The empty bottle weighed 600 grams.
Givry is a small village in Côte-Chalonnaise, immediately to the south of Mercurey, with about 300 hectares under vines. While it is generally warmer towards the southern edge of Burgundy, the weather is moderated by the elevation from 150 to 300 meters. From the information on Joblot winery website, the vines are cultivated on a east-facing slope, with an age of thirty five years. The grapes are completely destemmed. The wine is matured in oak barrels for one year.

Fresh, juicy red fruits, appealing spiciness. Medium body, very-well drinking, toothsome. Not much tannin, but the lively acidity gives the necessary grip. Less density, length than the 1er crus, but its absolutely ready to consume
