Psyched at how well this has held up with 5 years of age. Some of the fruit has blown off, making the 14% alcohol a little more prevalent. Dark plum and cherry on the nose with a hint of licorice. Nicely balanced tannin and acidity. A little alcohol to go with dark fruits and baking spices on the palate. A more worldly Merlot than most Long Island expressions.

I'll second Eric Guido's tasting note below. Very nice stuff, especially for the price. I generally don't like bell pepper in my red wine. This has a hint of it but just enough to give it some complexity without detracting from the red fruits and silky smooth mouthfeel. I don't think that quite articulates the experience. Anyway, I like it a lot .

The nose was deep and intense with dark red fruits, cinnamon and savory spice, and hints of green olive. On the palate, silky textures gave way to black cherry and blueberry skins along with savory herbs and minerals. The finish was long, showing hints of fine tannin, savory fruit and herbal tones. Very nicely done and remarkably affordable for what’s in the bottle.

Way more oak than expected, it’s a bit overbearing but it’s not terrible unbalanced. Otherwise, this was a surprisingly good bottle.
