  • I had written some of these off as over the hill, or not up to the advertised potential. But perhaps some patience was warranted here. This bottle has come around nicely, with well developed secondary characteristics of mushroom and soy on the nose, and a gripping, flavorful mid-palate that some might call sour or acidic, but to me highlights the red Pinot fruit. Not a great wine by any means, but at this stage showing at its apogee (as Parker might have said).

  • I was ready to write these off after drinking about 1/2 a case, and the general impression was the same to start with this bottle. Lean, short of fruit, some wood and faint Pinot fruit on the nose. But with about one hour of air, this finally came around, fleshed out on the palate to show some bright red raspberry fruit. On the nose the oak treatment is still apparent, but it seems to be integrating and transitioning to more of an underbrush note. On the palate it is much fuller, sappier than I remember. A pleasure to drink by the last glass.
