  Haunting aromatics after some time to air in the bottle. Lots of mushroom and tertiary complexity with plenty of fruit left on the palate. Such tension to the mouthfeel.

  I reckon I’ve drunk almost every Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne from 1981 to 2007 over the years with the 81 being the oldest and one of the best that I've tried. It comes from an unheralded vintage, is not as powerful as the 96 or 05, does not have the exotic flamboyance of the 86 or 92, nor the great precision of the 85, 00 or 07 but it seems to me to be a nearly complete white Burg. There are aromatics of hazelnut, almond, lemon curd and white peach. With air some mushroom and truffle appear. In the mouth it has lovely detail, has just a hint of crème brulee but is still crammed full of orchard fruits and finishes with real cleansing, grapefruit acidity. It is a gorgeous drink and one of my wines of th year thus far.
