Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 87.5 points

  • In contrast to my last experience with this wine 11/19/14, this bottle (purchased upon release and cellared identically to the bottle from my previous tasting) showed beautifully. Medium-to-deep golden in color, it flaunts a bouquet of jasmine, honeycrisp apples, wet stones, lavender and orange zest. The flavors mirror the nose and reside in a medium-bodied frame with crisp acidity and nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 13.5%). There is not even the slightest hint of oxidation with this particular bottle, making it a joy to drink from the beginning all the way through the lengthy finish. Aged white Burgundy is such a "crap shoot" (as a result of bottle variation). This particular bottle was a "come-out roll of 7." Drink now and pray that your bottle is like this one.

  • I cannot use the term "premature oxidation" with this deep golden wine, as it is now 10-years-old and I don't have a frame of reference from other tasters which might give me a clue. As such, I don't know if this bottle (purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion) was prematurely oxidized several years ago or is now simply "tired" at the age of 10. That said, it is lacking in verve and shows some light notes of oxidation. To be fair, it is still enjoyable and still has some honeycrisp apple, butterscotch and mineral aromas. But it does not possess the intensity that one would expect from a vineyard (and producer) of this pedigree in an excellent vintage. The flavors mirror the nose and show the same lack of intensity. Listed as 13.5%, the wine's alcohol is seamless and the middle palate is solid. Medium in length but "stale" on the finish, this particular bottle falls well short of expectations. Drink now.

  • Rocking out with Rhônes at Chez Leve (Los Angeles, CA): Nice minerality and telltale flint.
