Frank with duck and with 80% stem inclusion. Bright, cherry, nice acid, nice tannins. Well structured and could go a few more years. 80% was more brambly less cherry more tannin. Both delicious

Cellar manager error: somehow this wine in my cellar entered it without being recorded. One of the endless variations on the Explorers' Club themes. These are all well-intentioned - permitting side-by-side comparisons, if one were to open say four bottles at once; but how likely is that? Anyway, this was earmarked to accompany a Copper River salmon (we have missed the season the past two years by being in Europe), except the trawler failed to land a catch this year. Oh well: patties instead.
Dark clear ruby, somewhat smoky, spicy nose, lush, dense ripe cherry and plum, moderate acidity, very mild tannins, a slightly stemmy bitter quality on the back end.

This is very pretty--tending towards the jammy fruit, but with a strong backbone of acidity. Very nice, but a bit more in the spirit fruit-forward pinots instead of the savory ones.

Drank next to the 80% stem inclusion and I preferred the 80%. Similar to the Vista Hills, the 20% tended to yield wines that were a bit more fruit forward in a relatively less balanced way. Will say the fruit here a touch more restrained than Vista Hills, but the complexity of the 80% just overshadowed this one a bit.
